Technology

Looking for the most comprehensive eye test in town?
Visique Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt are committed to always being at the forefront of technology for the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease.

To this end, our practices invest in the very best technology available on the planet. We provide comprehensive eye examinations using the latest in cutting-edge technology to assess and care for the health of your eyes.

Retinal Imaging

Retinal CameraAt Visique Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, we provide digital imaging for all our patients. Our state-of-the-art Digital Retinal Camera allows us to take a high-resolution image of the back of your eye. This allows a more detailed and wider-angled view than would normally be achieved with conventional observation methods.

It shows detailed images of the internal eye structures and it can show abnormalities that may threaten vision. It greatly aids in the ability to accurately diagnose and document many diseases as well as providing a baseline for comparison with previous and future visits. It is a permanent clinical record to closely monitor even the slightest progression or abnormality so the subtle, early signs of an eye condition can be captured.

Services RetinalThis technology is especially valuable in detecting and monitoring slow developing, sight-threatening conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration and the eye-related effects of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Your retinal images are stored on our servers to monitor future changes using our comparison software from visit to visit.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

OCT is the latest advance in imaging technology. another way we provide a comprehensive eye test in the Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt area to our patients to detect the early signs of any eye conditions before they affect your eyesight.

Similar to ultrasound, this diagnostic imaging technique employs light rather than sound waves to achieve higher resolution pictures of the structural layers of the back of the eye; and can detect the early signs of retinal disease, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Topcon Maestro 3D OCT-1

With an OCT scan, our highly trained optometrists are provided with colour-coded, cross-sectional images of the retina. These detailed images are revolutionizing early detection and treatment of eye conditions such as wet and dry age-related macular degeneration, Glaucoma, Retinal Detachment and Diabetic Retinopathy.

We also perform OCT on the front segment of the eye including the cornea (clear front cover of the eye), the iris (coloured circle of the eye), and the lens of the eye (which is housed just behind the iris and pupil).

This high-resolution imaging system is used to accurately measure corneal thickness and fluid movement within the eye. It gives the most detailed cross-sectional view of the cornea, which is highly useful in monitoring conditions related to the front of the eye such as keratoconus and glaucoma.

Corneal Topography

Integral in a practice so heavily involved with contact lenses, the corneal topographer is used to digitally map the shape of your cornea (the clear front cover of your eye). This technology provides optometrists at Visique in Lower Hutt with a computer generated three-dimensional representation of your eye:

With this information in hand, the contact lenses most suitable for you can be ordered for you or be custom made at the laboratory. This enables our optometrist specialist to ensure that your contact lenses fit comfortably and provide you with the clearest vision possible.

Corneal topography is also used extensively for our very popular Ortho K, to monitor degenerative diseases of the cornea such as keratoconus and to be able to monitor and manage patients that have had corneal transplants.

Visual Field Assessment

Zeiss MatrixThe Zeiss Matrix is a sensitive device that is important in the diagnosis of glaucoma by detecting any visual field defects you may have in their earliest stages and can detect visual field changes missed by other methods. In the early stages of glaucoma you are highly unlikely to be aware that you are developing the condition.

By enabling the earliest detection of visual field defects, this highly detailed assessment method improves the success of treatment of this silent thief of sight to prevent eyesight loss. Most people that have early glaucoma have no idea they have the condition. The Zeiss Matrix is also valuable for detecting neurologically related vision changes.

Your screening test is included in the standard adult eye consultation.

Visique performs a visual field screening assessment on every adult patient encounter. More detailed tests can be used if indicated following your screening. This is because we believe that an eye test is not just about reading a letter chart, which only accounts for the central 2% of our vision. The other 98% of your vision is just as important.

Automated Initial Refraction

This computer-controlled machine is used during your eye examination to provide an objective measurement as a starting point for assessing your refractive error for glasses or contact lenses. The auto-refractor achieves this by measuring how light is processed and changed as it enters your eye.

Using the latest instrumentation, unmatched for accuracy, we can ensure your eyewear and contact lenses perform their best.
