Who We Are

Nick Burbery Optometrist Visique Hutt Valley

Nick Burbery,
Optometrist

After graduating from the University of Auckland School of Optometry and Vision Science in 1994, I then qualified in Ocular Therapeutics. I have since become highly experienced in treating both acute and chronic eye infections, inflammations and dry eye. Having developed a particular interest in evidence-based management of children’s vision I have undertaken additional research to specialise in this field.

Prescribing and fitting the latest technology in contact lenses is a constantly changing field, but in staying up with the play, the results I can give you are ever-improving.

As an accredited custom Ortho-K specialist practitioner, this amazing night-wear contact lens gives you another means of vision correction, free of glasses or daytime contact lenses.

I also assess and fit specialty RGP contact lenses for severe dry eye, Keratoconus, irregular cornea, post-corneal graft and Laser Eye Surgery complications, including Scleral contact lenses.

Annette Morgan,
Optometrist

I qualified with the Bachelor of Optometry degree and the Auckland Programme in Therapeutics from Auckland University. I have worked in the greater Wellington region since qualifying, and my practice was one of the original Visique practices.

I was a councillor of the New Zealand Association of Optometrists for many years, including a term as President, and I am currently Deputy Chair of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians’ Board.

I enjoy working as an optometrist, as I get to meet many different people, and the satisfaction of helping them improve their lives by seeing better is what gets me up in the morning.

I know what it’s like to have to wear glasses, to always see the world through a lens, to try and find the perfect balance between form and function.

I know the compromises that are part of life when you’re a glasses wearer, and I know and love the satisfaction of being able to see clearly no matter what; to go on a road trip, watch a movie, read the menu, enjoy a bushwalk, play with my grandbabies.

And I love helping other people find the frames and lenses that will give them that same sense of satisfaction. Thank goodness we live in the 21st Century and have so many options to keep us looking great and seeing superbly!

With a background in cameras and high-quality lenses, I love explaining the technical parts of the complicated process of optics in a way that’s easy to understand. And once you understand the process, it’s so much easier to make choices and decisions that will keep you looking great, feeling great, and seeing fabulously – an unbeatable combination!

With over 18 years in optics, the last 12 of which have been with the Visique team, I love having a job I’m passionate about, where there’s always something new to learn and where the technology keeps getting better and better!

Glasses may look simple – a frame with a couple of lenses – but they can be life-changing.

I love being a part of that.

Having been a client of Nick’s for over 20 years, I was ecstatic when the opportunity arose to join him and the awesome team here at Visique.

I have worn glasses and then contact lenses since before I was two, so I can definitely sympathise with the challenges of finding something that is both stylish and comfortable. I’m loving learning all there is to optics from the other side of the spectacles!

Helping our clients find glasses that let them see better, but also make them feel confident, fabulous and most of all to like themselves! is one of the best parts of the job.

I got into optics by a lucky accident, which has turned into almost eight years of experience!

I have always wanted to help people, and now I do so on a daily basis. Getting to know people and helping them see better are the parts of the job I love the most.

Watching a child getting glasses for the first time is the most fun as they can never hide their joy at seeing more clearly – that always puts a smile on my face!

I am also fascinated by the technology we have available. The ability to observe the back of the eye and everything that is going on in microscopic detail is always intriguing, and I love knowing that every person is getting the best eye exam possible.
